Fire Extinguisher Training
About the Course
This course is suitable for anyone whose role may require the skills and knowledge to operate first-attack firefighting equipment such as fire extinguishers and fire blankets. This training relates to the Australian Standard AS 3745 Planning for emergencies in facilities which stipulates that facility owners, managers, occupiers, and employers provide relevant training to facility occupants as part of a facility’s emergency plan and emergency response procedures.
The focus of this non-accredited course is on the skills and knowledge required to operate first-attack firefighting equipment such as fire extinguishers and fire blankets. Training is delivered by qualified and experienced facilitators with experience in emergency response.
Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be equipped with knowledge and skills to check and use first-attack firefighting equipment. Additionally, you will learn:
- Who the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) are and their duties
- Preparing for site specific fires
- Evacuating from areas under danger
- Identifying, reporting and correcting unsafe conditions
- Reporting and responding to fire emergencies
- Overview of the science of fire (how fire burns and spreads)
- Identifying the classes of fire
- Types of fire extinguishers
- Determining if it is safe to use first-attack firefighting equipment
- Selecting and safely using first-attack firefighting equipment
- Procedures to be followed after first-attack firefighting equipment have been used
- Post evacuation activities
